Have been designing an add on for Gruntz .it is more of a campaign system for small scale gaming in the Gruntz setting of Heliopause. The working title is Outpost Security Force...or OSF for short. In it you will assume command of a small squad/ platoon of mercs responsible for providing security for a corporate outpost on a wild mining planet. 95% of the rules will be Gruntz, so ownership of Gruntz rules is necessary. It is primarily a solo campaign system, of man to man skirmish using the rich heliopause setting as a backdrop. There is character progression....and best of all...if it ever gets playable it will be a free download.Thorlongushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556309913246314673noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555590356019080187.post-32404308882779938502014-02-24T18:11:00.001-08:002014-02-24T18:11:14.194-08:004 mutants from the wastelands

These are 4 mutants from khurasan for use in wastelands 3.0.......very quick paint job, one afternoon

Thorlongushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556309913246314673noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555590356019080187.post-1994947174114538742014-02-24T18:06:00.000-08:002014-02-24T18:08:32.556-08:004 wasteland survivors

Hi , here are 4 wasteland survivors ....3 are from khurasan, 1 from GZG , I think. These are from khurasan, basically painting whatever I find first when retrieving things from storage. Really fun figs to paint up...I think they look better with vaguely flesh colored skin instead of greenish. Why is the default for mutants always a greenish tint? Reminds me, I have some 2nd ed. Decided to start on some projects for skirmish gaming, going to concentrate on post apocalyptic theme, using the great free rules wasteland 3.0 from dicehead. Just finished a 10 man warband of wasteland explorers, an 18 man band of cannibal savages, and a 23 unit group of aotomated robot warriors.
First off, will be the robot war band.....currently not listed as an option in wastelands 3.0, but luckily I still have an early print version of the 2.0 rules....so,still a viable option. I can also use these as robot squad assets in grunts for my EHTC force. The figures are from critical mass games, blockhead battle suits...fun,easy paint ups, inspired by Elysium homeland security robots.
Thorlongushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556309913246314673noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555590356019080187.post-25979902903995381842012-08-14T19:39:00.001-07:002012-08-14T19:40:11.699-07:00some new 15mm orksHello, here again with some new 15mm orks....converted khurasan fantasy orc heads
hello,
just finished 12 orks with guns, a minor conversion from khurasan. orcs are from their fantasy range, front rank orc spearmen...added some loose AKs from their modern range..just a quick paint job and some cell phone pics. just wanted to see if it was a viable alternative source for 15 mm orcs.... I am contemplating buying wastelanders from the scene uk and giving them heads from this range.
I dont see why the scene doesn't just sell a pack of conversion ork heads

first pic has two octopod/hybrids
second pic has 3 fishmen/ hybrids
third pic has 3 robed cultists
and the fourth pic has a werewolf and a rather well dressed agent with sawed off shotgun.
the hybrids are all headswaps with shepartons gangster henchmen, deep one heads, octopod cultist heads.
the robed cultists are my first ever experiment with procreate....did all 3 in 30 minutes...had no fricken idea what i was doing. started with 3 khurasan gangster henchmen and just applied a thin gray stuff robe over them. easy to sculpt when you have a face ,hands, and weapon, and armature to begin with.
I am moderately satisfied with the results, realizing that I have no skill, experience, or knowledge in sculpting.
This time some good guys; some characters, agents, and 3rd world trainees/cannon fodder. In the rules i will use the trainees as civilian stats. All the minis are from Brigade games line of 15mm adventurers. I really like this line, hope they expand it. My only gripe is wargamers bad luck; the one figure I wanted(guy with Fez, broom handle mauser, and a freakin monkey on his shoulder) I did not get....If anyone has an extra?
1) first are two male agents Texas Pete, 45 pistol lucky hat and bullwhip, and some chap with a shotgun
2)next are two curvy women agents with bolt action rifles, one in safari gear and jodpurs
the other in what appears to be a zouave uniform, painted khaki
3)also two sabre wielding 3rd world trainees with fez/turban...these will use civilian stats
I like these figures, lots of character....next just waiting on an order from Jon at Khurasan.
Wow, what fun to paint great sculpts with loads of character. Sorry for the picture quality, Just getting used to not using Picasa.
Next project, 6 Threshold agents from Brigade games; 2 men, 2 women; and 2 3rd world tainee agents(15mm adventurers) I was really bummed out that I got a duplicate and did not get the one figure I wanted...the fez wearing guy with the broom handle mauser and a monkey!!!
thinned Windsor and Newton Peat Ink, as per advice received on LAF from a helpful fellow, Vyper. I think they do look a lot better , less chalky....I also realize I will never be a great painter....I just do not have the patience or focus. I am used to hurriedly painting armies for gaming, and quite often forget to actually finish the figures, or get easily distracted with the next shiny.
Just picked up the rules the other day, and of course ordered a bunch of figs from khurasan, copplestone, and brigade. Will try to do this project in 15 mm; the first painted minis I have are some zombies from Blue Moon Manufacturing Co. I will probably paint a lot more for other zombie gaming, but I doubt I will need more than 6 for Strane Aeons.
Hopefully I will be able to get some buildings from Blue Moon from their sleepy hollow set. Strange Aeons is set in the 1920s to 1930s, and while OK with that, what I yearn to do is some modern version based on the XCOM UFO DEFENSE video game.
In fact it was Mr. Harolds teasing on the subject that got me interested in Strange Aeons in the first place.
Well, here are the 6 zombies, I assume some type of cultists or agents will be next.
I guess my favorite would be the farmer zombie. while I feel like I did OK on the flesh, I may have gone overboard with the blood.Luckily I feel like these could be modern or 1920s zombiesThorlongushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556309913246314673noreply@blogger.com2Wellington, FL, USA26.6552309 -80.254251326.5984669 -80.3332153 26.7119949 -80.175287300000008tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555590356019080187.post-69619060259622505772012-05-19T13:46:00.001-07:002012-05-19T13:46:07.825-07:00WH40K OGRYNS
Hello
Just a few old photos of some 40k Ogryns I found on my hard drive. Sold these on ebay about 4 years ago
I really liked how these came out, even had a custom APC for them. I really enjoyed the huge player base that GW games enjoy, too bad I cant stand playing their games. and yes I realize these are not 15mm, but i have been in a real slump lately not painting much...most of minis in storage, lately just work, teaching my 15 year old son about weight training and martial arts , as we train together in the Bujinkan.
But all hope is not lost, I have begun painting again, slowly, now working on a small platoon(31) of 15mm Quar

Thorlongushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556309913246314673noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555590356019080187.post-64158800627222889192012-03-03T10:17:00.001-08:002012-03-03T10:17:59.052-08:00gashopon size comparison

Hello, just a quick pic to clarify size differences between gundam gashopon for Robin ,of Gruntz fame.
In the backrank is a 1/144 zaku poseable
2nd rank are 5 1/300 Zaku snipers fixed positon
3rd rank are several different poses Zaku 1/400 gashopon, mounted on GW upside down 40 mm diam. bases
front rank are 3 15 mm figures, blurred of course
I seem to be in a slump. having ordered so many 15 mm goodies, I seem to be paralyzed by choices....so I did what any sane, rational man would not.
I started a new blog and a new scale. brilliant.
Actually just a side project, painting some old discarded mechwarrior clickies I had lying about in a box.
Will try to make useable armies out of the trash, for use with Gruntz, and Tactical assault card game.
Actually has sparked a little creative fire under my aging neurons, and am enjoying painting once again.
if interested in progress /ramblings along the 10 mm sci fi frontier head over to Rusty Mech Salvage Yards.
A few 28 mm security types for 5150 NB/ or a henchman group for 28mm blasters and bulkheads or ITEN
very simple easy paintjob( I seem to have no patience for 28-32mm anymore) still have to stain the flesh a little.
I may invest in some clear acrilic bases for these guys
I have not updated the blog in quite a while. My teenage son finally moved in to live with me, so real life
actually has crowded out many former activities. now that the dust has settled, just wanted to share my first character for Blasters and Bulkheads. I believe it is a Blue Moon betelgeusian with a minimalist conversion of a lightsabre. sorry no advanced OSL painting techniques here, just good old fashioned mettalic paint.( I guess at heart i am a disorganized toy painter, not an artist).
easy conversion, pin vise, add 25 guage medical hypo needle. Here we have the hero using force push to ensure no one else gets a turn driving the big tractor.
This is my new squad attachment, heavily armored robotic support weapon. The weapon functions as either area effect
anti- personnell HE weapon, or anti armor rifle. I am thinking of using them for my Squamata Imperialis army,
as it already contains several repurposed Gundam designs. This figure is actually 1/550 scale gundam model.
I forgot the name( Gouf?). Purchased in a 1/550 scale model kit from hobby link japan for about 5$ american.
The kit came with 3 of these figures. it was a strange yellow VTOL model. I have 5 more like this. I envision its use as
a squad attached killer kan/dreadnought. Alien and human for scale comparison. I used red rather than the usual light purple
as my squamata are red and black.
things have been a little slow of late. Recently recovering from a hobby binge shopping spree which took several months. I am now officially out of money for trivial hobby pursuits.
Some of my highlighted purchases:
...21 pounds of lead from GZG, purchased the day before their hiatus
...a table full of CMG buildings painted for me by Matt Sabol of Sabol design studios
...2 complete painted 10 mm ancients armies(caesarian roman and gauls)
... several nice sized orders from Khurasan, Rebel minis, Combat Wombat
... a large sized force of rogue trader era GW orks
... a large bundle of starship interiors from creative gamescapes
on top of all this influx of hobby material....my workspace became cluttered and clogged, granting me the equivalent status of hobby constipation. So now I have to dig out, reorganize, reprioritize my projects, if I ever want to make any progress again.
Recently switched back from cheap craft paints back to my Vallejo, Reaper, and Vallejo Game colors.
the coverage issues were just too frustrating to continue to put up with.
So now I have a few projects to focus on....first up a small sized force of 15mm Quar....next some rebased mechwarrior infantry....and finally to make some progress on a set of skirmish rules stuck in my head....Thorlongushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02556309913246314673noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555590356019080187.post-47393880628896815862011-05-14T12:53:00.000-07:002011-05-14T12:53:31.936-07:00rescue from the island of misfit toys

just rescued this horrible useless star wars CMG droid starfighter in walking mode.
It now has a new life as an armored grav bike / armored fast attack tank destroyer/ infantry fighting vehicle.
Only extra piece was an old GW flight stand. juat a little strategic cutting, a little boiling water and repositioning(might need a touch more) and a little gorilla super glue. The best part of this formerly useless model was the prepaint ,which made it worth saving.
now I believe I have 8 more to do. No idea yet which army will get these. I guess they could even serve in a blockhead/mechanoid/droid army, fittingly.
